The one rule we never break
Your partner can neverread your journal entries. Not a line, not a word. This isn't a setting we promise to honour — it's enforced at the database level with row-level security, so it is structurally impossible for one partner's app to read the other's entries.
1. Who we are
Kindredly is a private journaling app for two people. You each keep your own private journal, and a gentle AI reads both — only to help each of you become more attentive to the other. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it.
2. The information we hold
- Account details — your email address, display name, relationship type, locale, and your prompt-frequency preference.
- Your journal entries — the private words you write, their mood rating, and whether they were typed or spoken.
- Significant dates — birthdays, anniversaries and dates of grief or significance you choose to add, so the app can be gentler around them.
- Check-ins, goals and quiz answers — the lightweight signals you give us about how connection feels.
- Derived memory— distilled, machine-readable notes the AI keeps to give better guidance (for example, “feels loved through acts of service”). You can view and delete these at any time.
- Billing — subscription status and the identifiers from your payment provider (Apple on iOS, or card/PayPal on the web). We never store full card numbers.
3. How your journal stays private from your partner
The journals are private from each other, not from the system that helps you. Concretely:
- Every entry is owned by its author at the database level. There is no rule anywhere that lets one partner read another's entries — so even with a valid login, the other person's words simply aren't returned.
- The AI reads both journals only through a tightly-scoped, server-side process used purely to generate gentle guidance. No partner-facing screen ever shows raw entries.
- What your partner receives is a sanitised insight — a soft, non-leading nudge that contains none of your actual words. The single exception is a highlight you deliberately choose to share; only then does one specific line cross, clearly and consensually.
4. How we use your information
- To run the journaling experience and adapt prompts to your mood.
- To generate gentle, mediated guidance for each of you — never raw, never accusatory.
- To keep the app safe (see the safety section below).
- To manage your account, subscription and support requests.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your journal entries to advertise to you.
5. The AI, and who can read what
The AI reads both partners' entries only to mediate — server-side, never surfaced to a person. By default no human, including our own staff and administrators, reads your entries. Administrative tools deliberately work with aggregates, billing and safety records — never the words you wrote.
6. Safety, without surveillance
Some things are too serious to mediate. When an entry suggests self-harm, abuse, violence, a substance crisis, or betrayal, the app stops producing couple-mediation around it and instead shows you calm, relevant help — and you can keep journaling. In these moments:
- We never notify your partner of a red flag, and we never turn what you wrote into pressure against you.
- We are not a mandated reporter and we do not surveil users; we connect you to professional help.
- Crisis resources are shown based on your locale. If you are in immediate danger, please call your local emergency number.
For the full picture, see our Safety & Ethics overview.
7. Your choices and rights
- Delete an entry — and its derived vectors go with it. Delete means delete, not a hidden soft-flag.
- Manage your memories— view what the AI has remembered and forget anything you'd rather it didn't.
- Delete your account — a full erasure of your data, GDPR/CCPA-shaped.
- Unlink — partner linking is mutual, and either of you can end it.
You can exercise these from the app and your web account, or by emailing hello@soulsync.app.
8. Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete an entry, a memory, or your account, we remove the underlying records and their vector embeddings. Some minimal billing records may be retained where the law requires it.
9. Security
Access to your data is governed by row-level security so the database itself enforces who can read what. We use reputable infrastructure providers, encrypt data in transit, and limit internal access. No system is perfectly secure, but privacy is the discipline this product is built around.
10. Age
Kindredly is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
11. International users
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure it remains protected to the standards described here.
12. Not a clinical service
Kindredly is a companion for everyday connection — not therapy, not crisis care, and not a diagnosis. It does not replace professional mental-health or relationship support.
13. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in-app where appropriate. This is an early (v0) policy and will be expanded and reviewed before any public launch.
